2017 is almost at an end and it’s time to share our findings! Over the past 12 months we have seen several home design trends that have been VERY popular and that are gaining even more momentum as we head into 2018.
This first of these trends is no formal dining room. With today’s fast-paced and less formal lifestyles a formal dining room can be a real dust catcher. A lot of families are opting for an open floor plan with a small attached dining room or are getting rid of a dining room altogether and utilize that square footage for an additional bedroom or home office. This can help keep the total square footage in your home smaller while giving you all the rooms you need thus saving you money!
Another very popular home feature we’ve seen are huge laundry rooms/mudrooms. Popular laundry rooms now have, not just your washer and dryer, but a sink and counterspace. More and more people are even including things like: a linen or supply closet, an extra freezer and cubbies for each person to keep their coats and other belongings. We’ve also seen an increase in requests to have these laundry rooms connected to the master closet for even more convenience and efficiency.
The master bath has certainly been a hot topic for latest trends as well, especially when it comes to a freestanding tub. Freestanding tubs are no longer just for those looking for the “clawfoot charm”. They have evolved to fit almost any style home whether that be sleek and modern designs or country charm. Whatever your preferred style, you are sure to find a beautiful tub to be a focal point for you new bath.
One last thing we have noticed gaining more and more momentum over the last year is aging in place. Clients are wanting to build their forever homes and with that they want to prepare for the future. Three-foot doorways, 4’ hallways, roll-in showers and plenty of “turn space” are all features that are in high demand.
