Falling into Great House Plans: Top Ten of 2019

Published at November 03 2024 by JFord

This past weekend we all gained an hour. That is the clocks changed with daylight savings time and everyone went back an hour. For those of us who got an extra hour of sleep, it was glorious, it was heavenly, it was magnificent. Yes, I have children. Can’t you tell? I always thought about the people working on the night shift that night though. How do they feel? Do they get off early that night? Do they have to work an extra hour? Do they look at the clock and contemplate changing the time back until right before they have to leave?

Yeah, I know strange thoughts. Since daylight savings means that we are coming up on the end of the year, that means that we are going to be crunching the numbers. Last week, I got to do a little number crunching myself. I went in and found what the Top Ten Plans were from 2019. Would you like to know?

Top Ten Plans of 2019

This is going to be in reverse order starting with 10. So, without further ado.

10. Austin Place (MEN 5040)

This traditional style house plan is great for a starter home or for a small family. It’s also a wonderful plan for builders! This house plan gives you just over 1,600 square feet with 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths and a 2-car garage. This home has a beautiful hip roof and attractive shutters on the front to give it some excellent curb appeal. Another key feature of this home is the open floor plan that includes the kitchen, great room and dining room.

As you approach the home, the first thing that you notice is the hip roof. This roof style is the easiest to build and maintain. Hello builders! This plan is for you, too! Entering the home, you find yourself in the foyer.

The foyer has a closet that is perfect for your winter coats and other gear. The foyer also opens to the garage and the stair way leading to the bonus room on the second floor. From the foyer you can make your way to the open living space that incorporates the great room, dining room and kitchen.

The great room features a vaulted ceiling and a large brick work fireplace. Along the rear wall of the space you will see both a bank of windows and a large patio door that open up to the screened porch on the rear of the home. I love screened porches. They are perfect for those nights when you want to enjoy a nice breeze outdoors without being eaten alive by nocturnal insects. I’m looking at you, mosquitos.

The great room merges seamlessly into the dining room. Past the dining room, you will find the kitchen. This space is separated from the main space by a large island that features bar seating for 4 and space for a gas range. The kitchen also has a corner sink with windows that face both the rear of the home and the side of the home.

Don’t miss the large closet and pantry on either side of the refrigerator. Down a small hallway, you will find bedrooms 2 and 3. Both of these rooms feature double casement windows that face the front of the home and large closets. They also both have access to the hall bathroom.

On the other side of the house you will find the laundry room. This features both hanging storage over the washer and dryer hookups as well as a folding table to help you stay caught up with everything that you need to do.

The master suite is also on this side of the home. The master bedroom gives you a large window that faces the rear of the home and a private entrance to the screened porch. Perfect for those nights when you want to sneak away for some private time.

The master bath is separated from both the master bedroom and the walk-in closet by pocket or sliding doors. The master bath features both a glass corner shower and a whirlpool tub. The walk-in closet upstairs in large and gives you dedicated space for your shoes.

9. Four Winds (MEN 5218)

This house plan gives you over 2,000 square feet of living area with 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths. This home features a 2-car garage that allows you to enter the home and go straight into the kitchen. No lugging heavy bags of groceries across the whole house!

From the garage you can also make your way directly to the laundry room which has a space for a large farm style sink, or you can go directly to the Master Suite. The Master Suite features a boxed ceiling and the adjacent master bath has room for a glass shower as well as a freestanding tub. The walk-in closet gives you plenty of room to store all of your clothes and is conveniently located right beside the Master Bath.

From the garage you can go down the hallway directly into the open floor plan featuring the Kitchen, Great Room and Breakfast Room. This large space features a vaulted ceiling with false beams and an island that gives you seating for 6. And let’s not forget the large pantry area that gives you plenty of room to store all of the goodies your family will ever need.

The Breakfast Room features a large bank of windows that give you an uninhibited view of the rear of your home. The Great Room features a centrally located fireplace so that you and your loved ones can cuddle up on a cold day. From the Great Room you can access the Dining Room and Foyer. The Foyer leads to the covered porch that greets your visitors as they enter your home.

The Foyer also opens up to a Guest Room that can also be used as Bedroom 4 or as a Study/office. This room has its own adjacent bathroom and a walk-in closet. From the Great Room you can proceed to the hall leading to Bedrooms 2 and 3 which each have their own walk in closet and share the Jack and Jill hall bathroom.

The home is finished off with a large Grilling Porch with vaulted ceilings that has space for the optional gas fireplace. From this Grilling Porch you can walk under the covered walk directly into the Master Suite. This house plan also has space for an optional third garage giving you space for more vehicles or storage.

8. Ashland Place (MEN 5042)

This rustic style house plan gives you just over 2,400 square feet of living space with 3 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, and 1 half bath. It also gives you room for a 3-car garage for your modern horse and carriage. With a lovely covered porch and rustic detailing through out the exterior of the home, this house plan is sure to catch the eye of anyone driving past. Inside the home you will find vaulted ceilings in the great room and kitchen and plenty of space for entertaining in both the dining room and the outdoor living grilling porch.

As you approach the home, the first thing you notice is the covered porch with its vaulted ceiling and stone pillars with rustic accents. The covered porch leads you into the foyer of the home. The foyer features a small closet that is perfect for coats and winter accessories.

To the right of the foyer is the dining room. The dining room features a high ceiling and a double casement window facing the front of the home. The dining room has a direct entrance to the kitchen area. This gives you an easy way to prep for entertaining.

Stepping into the kitchen, you will find a large space with plenty of countertop to help prep those big meals. The kitchen includes a large island that has a sink and bar seating for 10. The kitchen also has a large pantry that is perfect for storage.

The kitchen and great room are separated only by the kitchen island and both feature vaulted ceilings. The great room features exposed beams and a large stonework fireplace along the left wall. The rear wall of the great room is occupied by French doors with windows on either side that lead to the outdoor living grilling porch on the rear of the home.

This outdoor living space continues the theme from the rest of the home with a vaulted ceiling and exposed timbers. It also has its own outdoor kitchen area with space for a grill.

On the left side of the great room, you will find bedrooms 2 and 3. Bedroom 3 is set up like a mini master suite. It has a rear facing window, a walk-in closet and its own in-suite bathroom. This would be perfect for an older kid or a living in relative.

Bedroom 2 features a large window that faces the front of the home, a walk in closet and optional sliding glass doors that lead into the foyer. It has access to the hall bathroom. On the other side of the home, you will find the garage, laundry room, half bath and master suite.

The garage leads directly into the kitchen via a pocket door and gives you access to a kid’s nook and a half bath. Perfect for families with kids. This same hall gives you access to the laundry room which hides behind a barn door when not being used. The laundry room gives you storage space over the hookups, a table space for folding and a sink for soaking those really bad stains.

The master suite gives you plenty of room to relax. The master bedroom features an optional door to the outdoor living area and windows that face the rear of the home. The master bath gives you both a large shower with seats and a free-standing tub to soak away your worries. Don’t forget about the walk-in closet! It’s large enough to store everything that you need.
