Home Town Love: Great House Plans for Your Home Town

Published at October 22 2024 by JFord

You’ve probably heard somewhere before that the South is serious about football. Well, its true. Many of my memories from high school revolved directly around the game. Now that I am older, I don’t get into the whole experience as much, but I still get nostalgic about those days.

This week is Arkansas State University’s homecoming week and that got me to thinking about what makes me love my hometown. It’s not something that can be just rattled off in a couple of sentences. It’s the whole experience.

Hometown House Plans

One of the things you have to realize about this area, is that we may not be the most refined people. We are a little rough around the edges sometimes. Not to say that we don’t have people that are the epitome of class and grace, but the rest of us are more like quartz rather than diamonds.

So that got me to thinking. Some of our best plans have that little bit of rough around the edges and they look fantastic. So here are some lovely rustic plans that make me think of our little home town right here on Crowley’s Ridge.

Cameron Place (MEN 5149)

This house plan by award winning designer Michael E. Nelson is a great plan for builders and homeowners alike. This plan gives you just over 1,700 square feet of living space and absolutely none of that is wasted. It features 3 bedrooms with 3 full bathrooms and a 2-bay garage. This plan also gives you plenty of room in the master suite and a large kitchen with a wraparound countertop.

As you approach the home, the first thing that you notice is the rustic styling on the front and the unique roofline. The roofline combines both traditional gables with a hip pyramid style in the rear. This creates a very open area for the great room and kitchen.

As you enter the home, you find yourself in the foyer. This space may be small, but it won’t feel that way with a high 10-foot ceiling. The foyer also features a closet just inside the door. This makes it a perfect space to remove your guests coats and store your own winter supplies.

On the left side of the foyer you will find a small hallway that leads to both the laundry room and a stairway to the bonus room upstairs. The laundry room gives you lots of room for hanging storage over the washer and dryer connections.

Moving forward from the foyer, you find yourself in the great room. The great room is really opened up with a vaulted ceiling and a large fireplace that is centrally located on the rear wall of the space. The great room features large windows that look out over the grilling porch on the rear of the home.

The kitchen noses into the great room with bar seating for four. This separates the space visually and has a sink inset in the island that is perfect for watching the kids while you are cleaning up. The rest of the kitchen gives you plenty of counter tops and features a built-in pantry.

The dining room is directly off of the kitchen and features a large array of windows that look out on the rear of the home. It also gives you an entrance to the grilling porch.

From the kitchen you can make your ways to bedrooms 2 and 3. The hall that leads to the bedrooms features the linen closet as well as the shared bathroom. Both bedrooms feature windows that look out on to the front of the house and large closets with plenty of storage space.

On the other side of the home, you will find the master suite. This space features optional 10 boxed ceilings and windows that face that rear of the home. The master bath gives you both a freestanding tub as well as a corner shower. Let’s not ignore the his and hers sinks and the large walk in closet.

This house plan gives you just over 2,600 square feet of living space with 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and 1 half bath. The plan also gives you a 3-car garage to store your mechanical beauties. This plan features a lovely open floor plan combining the great room and the kitchen with a vaulted ceiling and timber beams defining the space. Don’t forget to check out the lovely photos sent to us of this house plan after it was built!

This house plan is a rustic beauty. It has a lovely covered porch on the front of the home that has stonework and wood columns. The rustic vibe extends to the covered entryway with a lovely vaulted ceiling over the stairs.

As you enter the home, you find yourself in the foyer. This area features high ceilings that bring in plenty of light from the entry way and keep with the rustic feel of the home. The dining room is to the right of the foyer and features a sloped ceiling and a large picture window facing the front of the home.

The dining room has its own entryway to the kitchen so that if you are carrying food to and from the dining room, you don’t have to walk around through the foyer. This small detail adds so much more dimension to entertaining in your home.

From the foyer you can make your way to the great room and kitchen. This space features a vaulted ceiling with exposed timber beams running through out. The great room is dominated by the large fireplace on the left wall. The rear wall of the great room is taken up by large windows and a French door opening to the outdoor living area/grilling porch.

The outdoor living area is covered and features all the features from the inside brought outside. It has vaulted ceilings and exposed timber beams with an outdoor fireplace and grilling kitchen. Back inside the house, you can move into the kitchen.

This space has a large kitchen island that has seating for 8 right in the middle of the space that separates the kitchen and great room. Another key feature of the kitchen is the large pantry that gives you plenty of storage space for even the largest of shopping trips.

The wall behind the fireplace in the great room gives you a long hallway that features bedrooms 2, 3 and 4. Bedrooms 3 and 4 share a bathroom and both have a large closet while bedroom 2 has access to a hall bathroom and features a large closet. Each of the bedrooms has a large window.

The other side of the home gives you the garages, one that is a single bay and the other that is a two bay, a laundry room, and a half bath. This side of the home also gives you the master suite. The master bedroom features a large picture window facing the rear of the home as well as an optional door to take you to the outdoor living area.

The master bath gives you both a large tub and a glass shower as well as a linen closet and his and her sinks. The master bath also has the entrances to both of the walk-in closets. One of these would be perfect for a safe room because of its location.

The second floor gives you a bonus room with its own bathroom and an optional arched opening balcony that would overlook the great room and kitchen below. This space would include its own walk in closet and access to attic storage.

This rustic beauty gives you down home vibes and modern conveniences. At just over 2,600 square feet, this house plan gives you 4 bedrooms with 3 full baths and has space for a 2-car garage. This home has a large open floor plan that features the kitchen, great room and breakfast area. It also gives you an absolutely gorgeous outdoor living area.

The first thing that you see about this home is the vaulted ceiling over the porch. This just makes you have all of the rustic feels. Between the vaulted ceiling and the stonework columns, you might think that you were in the Rocky Mountains!

Entering the home, you find yourself in the foyer. This space is given great definition with a high ceiling. To the left of the foyer is the formal dining room. It features sloped ceilings and large picture window facing the front of the home.

Stepping through the foyer, you find yourself in the open floor plan featuring the kitchen, great room and breakfast room. This enormous space gives you plenty of room to move and entertain. The great room is dominated by a large fireplace that occupies the right wall of the space. It also features large windows that open up to the outdoor living area/grilling porch.

This space gives you plenty of room to entertain or just to cuddle on a cold night in front of the outdoor fireplace. It also features an outdoor grilling kitchen that is perfect to prepare the feasts of roast beasts.

The great room also features exposed beams running throughout the space. This continues into the kitchen where you will find a large island that has seating for 8. This island separates the space between the great room and the kitchen and has the perfect placement for the sink so that you can wash the dishes and watch the kids at the same time.

The kitchen also features a large pantry set in the corner for those huge grocery hauls. Adjacent to the kitchen is the breakfast area. This features a boxed ceiling and a large window facing the rear of the home. You can enter the outdoor living area/grilling porch from a door between these two spaces.

The hallway running to the rest of the plan leads to the laundry room, garage and master suite. The laundry room gives you plenty of space to organize and fold as well as hanging storage over the washer and dryer hook ups. The master suite features large windows facing both the front and the rear of the home as well as a boxed ceiling for definition.

The master bath gives you a whirlpool tub, a corner glass shower, a linen cabinet and his and her sinks. Don’t forget about the large walk in closet!

The other end of the plan gives you bedrooms 2, 3 and 4. Bedrooms2 and 4 share a hall bathroom while bedroom 3 has its own in suite bath. All of the bathrooms have large closets and feature large double casement windows giving the rooms plenty of sunshine.
